A man reports that he knew that Canada is a democratic and progressive
country.
RES.: What were you aware of about Canada before you
came here? What did you know about Canada?
G.V.: Before I came here, I had talked to many of my
fellow villagers who had come here and they were telling me “Canada is a
progressive country, a creative country, it’s got jobs and a democratic
country. You can vote whatever political system you want”. You understand?
While in Greece this wasn’t the case. Some time ago and under the dictatorship
there was stranglehold. Or you have to vote libera party all the time. Even
the federal one, you weren’t democratic. You were democratic only with the
libera. You understand? There is a stranglehold in Greece the politics. After
forty-five things were tightened even more.
