A man who came in 1948 to study, describes how much he was impressed by
Montreal.
P.Ι.: He also took me for a stroll in Old Montreal, to
show me the ancient city of Montreal. In general, the impression of Montreal
was very positive for a Greek youngster. Because Athens -despite being a
capital- wasn’t… it was significantly smaller compared to Montreal. And this
segregation between English and French areas… it was very interesting for a
youngster like myself and for all the other Greek students. We were the first
big batch… which came to… overseas in ’48. We shouldn’t forget that in ’48
there was still civil war in Greece. And it’s the main reason that many
students left Greece -those whose parents were affluent- in order to avoid the
military service.
