A woman talks about the immigration legislation which gave her the ability from a tourist to become a citizen of Canada.
RES.: And yourself, how did you become from a tourist, a citizen of Canada? How did your papers get worked out and such?
Ι.Κ.: In ’73 you’d go to Immigration and Immigration had done something in order for some tourists who had come to stay and such. And I went too and…
RES.: And they told you…
Ι.Κ.: And they told us that we’re going to stay, but before they told us this thing, we had to go and swear why we wanted to remain in Canada. What makes us want to stay. I told them that I like Canada, it’s nice and I want to stay. And I received my card immediately. I became a Canadian citizen.
RES.: Did they have any prerequisites, anything else?
Ι.Κ.: No, no. There was just a law that came out, that any tourist who is… and they are clean and innocent may stay in Canada. And so, I stayed. I had no issue whatsoever, because I was clean. I had no issues, nothing. And therefore, they kept us.
