A man remembers the loneliness he was feeling, because he was travelling alone
at a very young age.
RES.: Were you afraid on the ship?
J.V.: On the ship I was coming when I was halfway
through sky and sea, I began to get sad, I was a small child and I was crying
almost the rest of the way until we reached Canada, because I had nobody. I
didn’t know anybody on the ship. There was someone whom I called uncle Elias,
he was going to America, but they couldn’t have me sitting with them, because
these were old people and they had their own culture and they were playing
cards on the ship to pass their time. And I couldn’t sit all the time, but
most of the time, I was passing it together. And I was feeling very… I’ll say
desperate, because I told you I didn’t know where I’m going, what I’ll face.
