A man talks about the difficulties he faced and he highlights that he was
working many hours and therefore couldn’t see his children.
X.Ν.: I’ll tell you. We had… the first emigration
above all, we had a very eh, how to say, difficult time. Why? Because there
was no help from anywhere.
Res.: Mhm. Nobody helped you?
X.Ν.: I was working… I working then ten… I was
starting job -when I first came in Montreal- I was starting job at about 10
o’clock in the morning and I was finishing at 3 in the morning. Why? Because I
had to pay off my debt, to buy furniture, to, to, to… I had four children. I
had to… Understand? So. For forty-two days I hadn’t seen my children. For
example.
Res.: Because you were at work all these…?
X.Ν.: Because I was constantly at work and I had been
sleeping for only three hours.
Res.: Mhm. And where, where were you sleeping?
X.Ν.: There at the house. Here at the house.
Res.: But you hadn’t been seeing them.
X.Ν.: But I couldn’t see the children. You know. The
time when I was waking up, they had left, for school.
