Landed immigrant

A man reports that he met the requirements and therefore was accepted by the Canadian immigration agency as a landed immigrant.

RES.: And why did you decide to leave Greece and come to Canada?
Γ.Α.: I worked for three years in Corcyra at a very large foreign hotel. I worked there as a supervisor, but the issue was that there I was employed only six months. The other six months the hotel closed and I was left without a job and considering that I couldn’t stay for six months without a job, I decided to leave.
RES.: Yes, yes, yes, yes. And why Canada?
G.Α.: Canada came by luck. I made an application to go to either America, or Australia, or Canada, whichever accepts me. America turned me down because I had no sponsorship, Canada and Australia accepted me both. I could go as a landed immigrant. Why did I come to Canada? Because the tickets were cheaper.
RES.: Ok. And that’s how the immigration was, they were telling you all that you can be a landed immigrant?
G.Α.: No, no. I belong in a category, back in those years there were people who when they spoke French or English and they had a degree and they had work experience somewhere and they were unmarried up to thirty years old, they had priority in Canada. They were… they were taking them in easily. So, I went for an interview in language in… in… in the Canadian embassy in the French department, because within the embassy Quebec has a special room, those who want to come to Quebec will have to have an interview with the Quebec representative in there and the interview is in French. But I convinced them that I spoke French well enough and they brought me over here. They offered me that, the landed immigrant from then onwards.
