A man describes how the Immigration agency of Canada found him employment.
G.Α.: Most Greeks knew somebody here, I arrived at the airport with two suitcases, I disembarked also with a letter from the Canadian Consul in Athens, that this man is independent,
“Please help him”. Truly, when I handed the letter over to the immigration officer, he says “Sit right there in the corner, let me finish up with the others first and then I’ll take care of you”.
So, the man asked me if I wanted them to find me a room to sleep at for one month…
RE.: Like a hotel eh?
G.Α.: Yes, Yes.
RE.: Ok.
G.Α.: Like a hotel. It was a room, it wasn’t a hotel. In some house.
RE.: Ok.
G.Α.: And they also gave me a paper and they said “Tomorrow, if you want, you’ll go to this office so that they’ll find you work”.
And indeed, I went two days later and they found me a job and I started working at Expo 67 in the German pavilion, selling beers.
