Souvlakia in Meraklis
Woman describes her entertainment every Sunday.
RES.: In Park Avenue, I imagine, there were many other Greeks.
ΑΝ.: Too many. Park Avenue was of course because at the time there were only Greeks there in Park Avenue and full of, full of Greek stores everywhere. Banks… no! Not banks. We didn’t have Greek banks yet. We had some trust we called them back then, Greek trust, but they had so many. Restaurants, pastry shops, stores with clothes. They were all Greek and above all there was the theatre at Rialto. You didn’t get the chance, your parents would have known it. So, every Sunday it was mandatory to visit the cinema of course and then there was a restaurant which was called ‘Meraklis’. To ‘Meraklis’ we were going for pork skewers (souvlakia) after Rialto, ‘Meraklis’. Every Sunday was that day. Dedicated to that. Cinema and souvlakia. RES.: Very nice.
