A woman refers to her expectations as well as to those of the rest of the
Greeks who emigrated to Canada.
Ε.Μ.: From the beginning most people whose goal I
knew, their destination was to make money so as to return to Greece. I didn’t
see it that way. I was seeing that I came to a country, I had children,
family, I’d have to make my life here and to live here. I knew a lady, who
once upon a time now, I mean ten years ago because she’s passed away now and
she had told me that in Canada there’s no moon because from work she was going
home and from home to work she wasn’t seeing anything. She didn’t get to know
life, she came here, she moved, she emigrated, she died, without getting to
know life I guess that gave me some knowledge, something special. And for
myself this wasn’t a way of life and I told her that Canada had much moon just
like Greece, that the stars are there, that they haven’t left, but you’ll have
to search in order to find them.
