A man reports how he emigrated to Canada due to political reasons.
Α.Μ.: The reasons were precisely political, due to the
dictatorship. Meaning in 1967, you’d know this, a dictatorship was established
in Greece. I was anti-dictatorial, I had partaken in some way, maybe even by
mistake, in an anti-dictatorial organization, which was betrayed and they were
apprehending and putting in prison. And I was given the opportunity to leave.
This was the reason it was neither professional, nor economic, nor anything
else. I was a mechanic in the ships, I had a career, I was making more money
than I was making here when I came. Of course, I lost everything, because I
left and without papers.
