A retired school director in Calgary talks about her career
Α.Κ.: In Calgary I was working, when I had the family, I was working, I taught twelve years at the Greek school of
Calgary and I taught another four years at the Greek school of Edmonton and when I was in Edmonton I was working as…
at a public library. Eh, when we returned to Calgary I was working as supervisor at the university, at the university library,
also, as a reference librarian in SAIT and I was also working part-time at the medical library food health hospital. But I returned back
to university, I finished the education degree. Eh… I was instantly hired by the Calgary board of education. Very soon I went
to the administration and afterwards I did a master’s degree in education leadership. And of course, very quickly I became a school director.
I became director at a French immersion. Afterwards, I became director at a K-9, then at a junior high. I have a legit career with the
Calgary Board of education and I’m the recipient of many awards, advanced awards, semifinal of province of Alberta award
of excellent administration. Nominated, supported by parents, colleagues, supervisors. My work has been published,
I’ve done a lot of workshops, some training and I can say with confidence that I had a great career eh… as
administrator, but also as teacher librarian, because I’ve got much experience, in this… in this area.
