One metre of snow
A man describes the snowy landscape he saw coming to Canada.
Res.: How did you feel when you disembarked, when you
saw Canada for the first time? What? What?
G.Μ.: Look, we came in a period when it winter.
Res.: Yes.
G.Μ.: Eh, definitely, eh, of course there wasn’t any
snow in, in Halifax when we arrived, but along the route when we started and
entered Quebec eh there was, it was snowing in Quebec. And slowly when we
arrived here, we found a lot of snow. For sure, when you leave a temperate
climate, from such a place, from the island and you arrive and see for the
first time a meter of snow, because at the time it snowed quite a lot and they
weren’t removing it. The means which we had later weren’t available. So, eh
you start getting unsettled somewhat eh and it’s also cold of course and you
say “What’s going on now? Where did we come?”. It wasn’t of course eh a few
weeks, in any case Canada wasn’t completely unknown to me, I knew geography
very well and I knew what to expect.
Res.: Yes, yes.
G.Μ.: Therefore it was kind of easier than… like my
father who came later and saw these things. “Wow, wow” says he “What kind of
place is this?”.
