Pier 21, Halifax Port. Passenger arrival area, Vancouver Airport. Railway Station,
Montreal. Areas of transition. Areas which narrate Canada’s immigration policy.
Areas where the newcomers will come in contact with the host country for the first
time. In this room, the immigrants’ oral testimonies are transporting us to the
first period of their stay in Canada, describing their impressions, the hardships
they faced, but also the contacts which played a decisive role in their adaptation
to the new social, economic and cultural environment, mapping, in essence, the
reconfiguration of their class, gender, national identity through the immigration experience.
