The decades of the 1950s and 1960s. Postwar economic growth in Canada.
Arrival in the host country simultaneously implies the quest for work.
The social and family networks, the international organizations and the
immigration agency of Canada decisively contribute to the search and finding
of work, revealing how migratory status, gender, but also the common origin
are interwoven with labour. Through the informants’ memories, everyday life
in the factories is unraveled. The harsh working conditions, the power
relationships, the cases of labour exploitation, but also the dynamics of
development are reflected, while, at the same time, the economic and class
reality of the host country is registered.
